Where is Ski Brule?

Ski Brule is in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan, just over the Wisconsin border and about two miles west of M189 near Iron River. A family ski vacation is a shorter drive than most people expect — we’re closer to Green Bay than to Detroit, and closer to Minneapolis than to Chicago.

Please don’t rely on your GPS. Many GPS units do not recognise roads in the Upper Peninsula and will send you the “long way” — and signal drops out in the Northwoods of Wisconsin and Michigan. Use the written directions below for the last stretch.

Driving Directions

From Green Bay

29/32 North to Gillett, 32 North to Laona, right/East on U.S. 8 for approximately 8 miles to 139, left/North on 139 to the WI/MI border, 139 becomes M189. Continue North 4 miles to the Ski Brule entrance billboard, left/West on Osterlund Road 2 miles to Ski Brule.

From Appleton

47 N to 117 through Bonduel to Cecil, 22 NE to Gillett to 32N (see Green Bay directions).

From Madison

190/94 North to Portage, 51 North through Stevens Point and Wausau to Merrill, HWY 17 North through Rhinelander to Eagle River, HWY 70 East to 139. North on 139 to WI/MI border, 139 becomes M189, continue North 4 miles to Ski Brule entrance billboard, left/West on Osterlund Road to Ski Brule.

From Minneapolis

Take 135 N to Forest Lake, HWY 8 East to Rhinelander, in Rhinelander take HWY 17 North to Eagle River (see Madison directions from HWY 17).

From US 2 (Iron River)

Follow US 2 into Iron River, South on M189 at the only traffic light. Follow M189 South 6 miles to the Ski Brule entrance billboard, right/West on Osterlund Road, 2 miles to Ski Brule.

From Chicago

North on 94 to Milwaukee, 43 North to Green Bay, 172 West (towards Airport), HWY 41 North to 29/32 West (see Green Bay directions).

From Marquette

Take US 41 West to M95 South, right onto M69 in Sagola, right onto US 141 to Crystal Falls, right onto US 2 West (see From US 2).

A Note on Time Zones

Ski Brule is on Central time. Phones travelling up from Wisconsin or Illinois often flip between Central and Eastern and back again through the day, so check the clock against our posted hours rather than your handset before you set out for first chair.
