Ski Brule TV6 News Opening Weekend Story
November 10, 2013
IRON RIVER — Are you waiting for the snow to stick to go skiing? Well, Ski Brule in Iron River is open.
Skiers and snowboarders with the itch to get back on the slopes did so at Ski Brule in Iron River.
“It’s a lot of fun. I was waiting for this for a long time,” said Jackson DeAugustine, from Marquette.
Workers were making snow since mid-October. With a base of 24 to 36 inches of snow, the Log Jam trail and Bunny Hill were officially opened on Friday, November 8.
“Lift tickets were free on opening day, so it definitely got everybody out to enjoy. We didn’t make the decision until 6:30 in the morning on Friday, so to have 350 people show up for opening day was pretty spectacular,” said Jessica Polich, Operations Manager.
More than 600 people visited over the weekend. Some came from all over the U.P., Detroit, and even Wisconsin.
“The first run was awesome. The snow is a little slick, but it was good. It feels awesome; feel so free up there. You just got to let loose and just go for it,” said Amy Babcock.
Ski Brule has a total of seventeen trails to ride on. Currently they are making snow on Honor Slide, Gentle Bend, Big Bear, and Bambi Trail.
“It was great;, I don’t really know how to explain it. Their snow is in perfect condition you know. So it’s just smooth,” said Joe Mutter.
With the upcoming chance of cooler weather, they are hoping to open up anotherrun some time this week.
